The Med Lab Asst II performs technical and clerical functions in one or more sections of the laboratory.
Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.
Maintains equipment and adequate stock of supplies.
Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.
Performs clerical duties which may include but are not limited to answering phones, data entry, and filing.
Assists in the operations of the assigned department and performs department specific specialized duties. Histology: Responsible for sending out testing, disposal of wastes, set up of tissue specimens including the preparation of cassettes for grossing, slides for cutting, operation of tissue processors, proper safety practices and additional tasks as directed. Specimen Processing: Outreach order entry, client electronic orders, toxicology set up, microbiology special ordering and additional tasks as directed.
Demonstrates high degree of skill, responsibility and problem solving in assigned department.
Laboratory Intern: Successfully completes all assigned education, activities, and clinical experiences set forth by the curriculum of the St. Vincent's Medical Center School of Medical Laboratory Science.
Provides customer service for internal and external client requests including reporting of lab results. Demonstrates appropriate interpersonal and communication skills.
HS or Equivalent
High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous laboratory experience required.
