Whole Foods Market Prepared Foods Associate Team Leader in Jacksonville, Florida

Job DescriptionReport to Prepared Foods Team Leader and provide support, management and supervision of the Prepared Foods Department. Assist in Team Member hiring, development, andoutplacement from Team. Like the Team Leader, is responsible for profitability, expense control, buying/merchandising, regulatory compliance, and special projects as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Team Member Development

  1. Consistently communicate and model Whole Foods Market vision and goals.

  2. Assist in interviewing, selecting, training, developing and counseling Team Members in a manner which builds and sustains a high performing team and minimizes turnover. Make hiring and termination decisions in conjunction with the Team Leader.

  3. Recommend disciplinary action, transfers, promotions, rate increases and consult with

Team Leader on Team Member job dialogues.

  1. Train Team Members in proper product handling and storage, stocking, ordering, equipment operation, building displays and product rotation.

  2. In the absence of the Team Leader, supervise, schedule and assign duties to the Team


  1. Maintain safe and sanitary work conditions throughout department in compliance with applicable Health and Safety codes. Report all accidents and injuries to Team Leader or Store Leadership and correct and report all life safety and fire hazards, along with any other violations of company policy, to Team Leader or Store Leadership.

  2. Help establish and maintain a positive work environment, which sustains an exceptionally high level of Team Member morale.

  3. Communicate and maintain employee safety and security standards.

  4. Attend leadership enhancement classes offered by Whole Foods Market.

  5. Properly and accurately record time using time clock at the beginning and end of each shift and for unpaid meal breaks during shift

  6. Responsible for adhering to, enforcing and observing proper dress code, including non-slip shoes and cut-resistant gloves during each work shift.

Financial Management

  1. Aid in inventory and product mix to achieve targeted gross profit margin.

  2. Assist Team Leader in projecting annual sales and expenses, and preparing annual operating budget.

  3. Work with Team Leader to achieve budgeted expense levels, department profit, and store profit contribution targets.

  4. Help manage the buying/ordering process to meet Whole Foods Market quality standards, maintain competitive pricing and achieve targeted sales.

  5. Establish and maintain positive and productive vendor relationships.

  6. Assist the Team Leader in the analysis of sales and labor reports.

  7. Enforce loss control and strive for minimum shrink.

Merchandising/Marketing Management

  1. Help maintain creative store layout and product merchandising with advice from the

Regional Prepared Foods team.

  1. Sustain exceptional level of knowledge/awareness of relevant competitors and industry trends.

  2. Maintain awareness of new products, and regularly incorporate new products into overall product mix.


  1. Establish and maintain collaborative and productive working relationship with Team Leader and all Team Members.

  2. Cultivate effective inter-department and inter-store communication.

  3. Maintain exceptional level of customer service relations.

  4. Thorough and complete documentation in support of Team Member discipline and counseling activities.

Regulatory Compliance

Must follow all local, state, federal and Whole Foods Market specific guidelines. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, including, but not limited to:

ƒ Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services

Intellectual Requirements:

  1. Have a minimum of two years retail Prepared Foods experience or the equivalent.

  2. Thorough knowledge of products, buying, pricing, merchandising, and inventory management.

  3. Demonstrated decision-making ability and leadership skills, preferably one or more years of experience in being able to direct and supervise individuals and manage work and priorities.

  4. Should be able to use, or be able to learn to use the necessary tools for the job such as DVO, store ops, IRMA, Microsoft Office Suite and other regionally required business applications.

  5. Analytical ability and proficiency in math sufficient to calculate margins, monitor profitability

and manage inventory.

  1. Comprehensive Prepared Foods product knowledge.

  2. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to train and mentor Prepared Foods Team


  1. Ability to maintain professional and appropriate conduct.
